Wilmington

Wilmington

Not too big, not too small, Wilmington is just right at around 123,000 citizens, 8th most in the state. It’s easy to see the allure of this city located near the sea and a winding river. Golfers have acres of options on some of the most pristine courses east of the Mississippi. As an example, Cape Fear Country Club, built in 1896, is a popular place to play 18 holes on a historic course designed by Donald Ross. For you beach lovers, plan on leaving stress in your wake. There are four beach communities within 30 minutes of Wilmington, plus Fort Fisher Recreation Area is the perfect place to watch kitesurfers as well as sea turtles.

And if you love fishing as much as I do, the options are limitless. Along with dozens of charter boats in the area that reel in sharks, mackerel, and black sea bass, opportunities abound at local parts and piers. You can even land speckled trout… if you know the hot spots.

Not to be left out is the downtown Riverwalk, voted best in America back in 2014. And don’t forget the aquarium nearby. It’s easy to see how life in Wilmington is what you’re looking for – outdoor activities, a lovely downtown, and water destinations. Oh yeah, the weather is on point too so you can actually enjoy all the amenities year-round, with January highs in the mid-50s.
